Prussian infantry in the Napoleonic era
The Prussians first faced Napoleon in 1806. The defeat at Jena and Auerstädt was devastating; the Prussian army was shattered, and the country came under French protectorate.
Prussia was forced to reform its army. Modern training techniques were introduced, and a new generation of officers came to the forefront.
After years of reorganization, the Prussian army played a key role in the final Napoleonic campaigns, especially in 1813 during the Battle of Nations at Leipzig and during the famous Battle of Waterloo in 1815, where the forces, under the command of Field Marshal Blücher, supported the Duke of Wellington in the decisive battle that led to the defeat of Napoleon.
