The Vallejo True Metallic Metal series is a sophisticated 4-step system: Base-Light-Shade-Airbrush, with each color available in its respective version. This allows metallic surfaces to be built up step by step: from the opaque base color to targeted lightening and realistic shadows , all the way to the airbrush version for larger areas.
The BASE version is the heart of every True Metallic Metal color range. It delivers the metallic base tone with full coverage and a smooth, homogenous finish. This version contains fine metallic pigments and an optimized binder, creating smooth layers without visible brush marks.
Essentially, no special prior knowledge is necessary, but it helps to understand the role of base, light, and shade in the overall concept. The base determines the medium metallic tone, which you can build upon with light highlights and integrate with shade shadows. When applying, it’s recommended to build up thin layers in several coats to ensure the shine remains even.
